Job Description

The Junior Producer will oversee the video production process from conception through to completion. This role involves managing all aspects of video production including initial planning, scheduling, scripting, filming, editing, and delivery. The producer will work closely with Video Production Manager, Graphic Designer, Content Strategist and Speaker to ensure that the final product meets the project's vision and objectives.

Day-to-day Duties

Three (3) primary responsibilities:

  1. Project Development and Planning:
    This involves understanding the project’s requirements and objectives, developing proposals, and organising all pre-production activities such as scheduling and logistics.
  2. Production Oversight:
    The Junior Producer supervises the actual filming process, ensuring that everything runs smoothly and managing on-set issues. This includes ensuring that the production adheres to safety standards and that all scenes are captured according to the project's timeline and quality requirements.
  3. Post-production Management:
    This role includes coordinating the editing, sound mixing, and other post-production tasks to ensure the final product is polished and aligns with the client’s expectations and project goals. The producer manages the workflow to keep the post-production process on schedule and within the project's scope.
When it comes to day-to-day duties typically include:
  • Research and develop concepts and content frameworks specifically tailored for educational video projects.
  • Manage the production schedule: source, contact, and book guests/creators for educational video shoots consistently.
  • Ensure guests/creators are prepared for shoots, working with them to prepare topics, check scripts, and manage expectations, all with a focus on educational value.
  • Collaborate with videographers to conduct interviews, direct video shoots, and ensure that content quality meets educational objectives.
  • Assist video editors with content direction, treatment, and selecting the best cuts to enhance the educational impact.
  • Work with content strategists/social media executives to conceptualize social media collateral that extends the reach of video projects.
  • Prepare and upload video content onto the OpenAcademy App.
  • Work independently, as well as part of a team to establish project deliverables
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest trends in educational content creation and video treatments.
  • Video editing skills are a plus, with the ability to support basic edits, short-form content cuts, or simple video adaptations when required. This is an added advantage and not a core requirement of the role.

Successful candidates shall possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Film, Communication, Media Studies, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a video producer or in a similar role, with a focus on educational content creation.
  • A strong understanding of the video production process with a particular emphasis on creating content that educates.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, essential for managing multiple educational projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of guiding diverse teams toward a unified educational vision.
  • A creative mindset with a keen attention to detail, ensuring that educational content is both engaging and informative.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage various projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in using video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar.
